It’s a burger place and it’s fine. The chicken strips were also fine. The cajun seasoning on the chips was pretty good. Just not better than the existing good burger joints.

One of the North Laine pubs built into a shopping street, but surprisingly spacious and a very pleasant vibe. They serve Pieminister pies with mash and gravy. Pieminister do a good pie, but my chicken/ham/leek was overdone (I presumed heated in the oven), but was ok with the gravy. However: pie, mash, gravy and a pie for £10, so insane value. Points for value, not so much for selection.

A hidden gem behind London Road station; huge outdoor space, cosy inside, nice people, good food. Thumbs up.

This was a close one, because Port Kitchen is rather unique, right in Shoreham Port. It’s a lovely spacious place with tons of great outdoor seating. But, while reasonably priced, the menu’s a bit odd and food is nothing special in a town full of great cafes.

Really amazing Indian, top service, great food (including really beautifully done naan). Delighted to have found it.

I liked this place in its previous incarnation as the Laine Deli, but to be honest the North Laine Cafe blows it out of the water. Easily one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Brighton – benedict came with tons of thick cut bacon, and the “stack” with homemade pork pattie, homemade hashbrown, bacon, egg…amazing.

A really cool potion themed bar. While you can theoretically just walk in and have a drink, the main draw is the potion “experience” where you get a welcome drink from a mythical beast, then make two – quite involved! – potion drinks for yourself, interacting with some neat little props on your table using your wand. Well worth a go!

Went in and the boy had a chocolate and marshmallow waffle, and I had a breakfast one with egg, bacon and cheese. We enjoyed it, but it’s quite spendy for what you get, and the waffles were ultimately a bit overdone. Better off going to one of the many dessert places around town I think!

A lovely large space (although you have to watch noise levels from the tellies towards the back) with fantastic staff, and a really great offering of food at very reasonable prices.

The sister to the excellent Latinoamerica next door, a brunch, wine and tapas bar. Really nicely fitted out cafe, and great empanadas, and lethally sweet dulce de leche cheesecake!
