The frontage is deceptive – this is a cavernous pub but really warm and cosy, with overstuffed chairs and candles. Great place for a quiet one that makes you feel a million miles away.

Cosy pub although most seating is stools; quiet and friendly atmosphere, cheap drinks, and it’s bigger than it looks. Nothing dramatic, but perfectly pleasant.

Doesn’t quite feel right to call this a pub, but it’s not quite a bar either; we went in after a burger at the Mash Tun next door. Two floors, with a super cool terrace upstairs that covers over in the event of rain, as do tables out front. Quirky decor that I liked, and the food looked excellent.

Pub with big outdoor area, one of these rammed with junk decorations type places and loud-ish music inside. Very nice people, and they have the “Burger Kult” inside which does fancy burgers – had the “Chuck Satan” with chopped bacon, sweet onion relish, cheese – very tasty, but just missing something that I can’t put my finger on. Seasoned fries awesome but too salty for some. I’d say my fave Brighton burger so far.

Have been trying to find our pizza delivery place of choice and short version: this is it. Great margherita and “Louisiana” which is a meaty one, PLUS major points for quality cheesy garlic pizza bread. We had delivery but the actual cafe is nice too.

Dedicated place doing fries in a cone with an array of sauces. Funky little frontage with wooden shelves with holes for your fry cones, and really nice guys. Fries on their own would be superb, but they have all sorts of sauces and will give you loads to try. Garlic mayo, curry ketchup, sweet onion…look, it’s amazing.

Bagelry right in Brighton Station. Lots of different kinds (although points off for no bacon and egg), I had a salt beef bagel with swiss cheese. Pro: clearly quality ingredients, especially the beef. Con: Quite expensive really – £5.50 for that, which seems a bit much.

Little cafe with savoury eats, coffee etc. Had none of these. Instead, was finally seduced by the cakes in the window which look amazing constantly. Peanut butter layer cake and red velvet cake. My stars. Extraordinary.

Part of the Ginger Man group, gastropub that I really wanted to love. Great building, lovely space, amazing appetisers (oysters and fried pig’s head), fantastic service….but our 700g sharing sirloin steak was just pretty damn poor for the money. Dessert of chocolate ganache also pretty average.

Didn’t eat here, but it’s a lovely place inside like a fancy West Hampstead type place, the food looked lovely and the garden is actually a garden. Winner.
