Chain of hot chocolate shops where you choose your percentage darkness of chocolate and they make you one. Pretty good! Advise going darker, and adding salt!

The fourth restaurant from the Salt Room team, an Italian small plate situation. Really enjoyed it. Cracking service, really beautiful food and cocktails. Incredible fried vegetables in particular but mushroom risotto also a highlight. Points against would be you do pay for it, not dramatically but noticeably. Also I think it’s only worth sitting at the counter, as the other tables I feel are too packed in for what they’re charging (a sin committed by sister resto the Coal Shed). But definitely a top Brighton resto straight away.

I was actually going to give these guys a little bit of a pass for delivery, because the burger looked delicious, but was just ok, similarly fries looked great and the garlic pizza bread smelled like it was going to be amazing. It was all more or less ok, the pizza bread tending to good but the fries cold. So I thought ah, I’ll try them at the Font – because one strong point in their favour is they are very well priced. But it turns out that although they are based at the Font, they’re not actually the food at the Font; they’re delivery only. So it’s just Ok, better burger options availabile.

I dunno man, maybe I need to have another go here, but it’s an Indian. It was fine, but they forgot my rice, which just puts me off the whole thing, and when I call, the solution is some free rice or curry next time? Eh. Not inspired to try again.

All funky branding and promises of outrageous flavour, but really, just average. Not bad, but like, if you made them yourself you’d think you’d done ok, but not great. In fairness to them this is reflected in the pricing, you can get a lot for your money.
Verdict: Ok
Location: Can’t find one, presumably some dark kitchen
Had takeaway here but keen to try it in person, really tasty and good value Turkish.

An unusual one this, in a modern block of flats; massive high ceilings, loads of space – which I definitely like. Nice looking food menu although only had fries; only mark against it is the pint prices are pretty rough.

Huge airy cafe in an otherwise largely residential street – big points for space. Food delicious too – French toast crumpet stack with cheese, chilli jam and bacon, lemon cheesecake pancakes both excellent. Only complaint really is the portions are just too much!

A really good small plate resto from the Salt Room team. Fantastic calamari, delicious burrata with fig jam…actually the thing that impressed me the most was the skillet fried potatoes, which came in said skillet with a delicious sauce and sheep’s cheese grated over the top; a dish easy to phone in done deliciously. It was all good. Only thing I could say against it was that the space is pretty small; was quite glad being at the counter where more room to breathe.
