Dead Wax Social

Popped in here during Pride and it is HUGE! Really relaxed vibe for a pint or a pizza – didn’t have the latter but they looked and smelled amazing so will be back for one for sure. Great music and funky interior, spinning all vinyl, all the time.

Verdict: Awesome

The Ginger Fox

Debated whether to include this but it’s a part of our Brighton experience so I think it counts. Semi-rural restaurant with a lovely beer garden and a short drive from Brighton – we were drinking outside in the sun at half five easy. And the restaurant is small and quite charming, that great sort of place where everyone is lovely but the food is storming. Amazing rib croquettes with chipotle mayo, potato and truffle soup, crispy lamb shoulder, chicken pie or beef fillet with duck fat chips – all amazing and actually very well priced.

Verdict: Awesome

Pizza Me

Pizza delivery outfit that has really committed to an amusing “ME” based menu structure. Eg “Where’sMEspecks” and personal favourite “ButterMEnuts”.  Worth a look for this alone. Pizza-wise it was pretty ok. Two tasty pizzas, delivered in an hour.  Thought the MeatME was really pretty stingy with the meat, which prevents it being awesome.

Verdict: Ok

Bar-BQ Shack at The World’s End

Food concession in the pub, with a promising menu of proper BBQ classics. I tried to go – twice – but you seem to have to win the lottery to actually get any of it. First time they were not running for unspecified reasons, and today none of the proper BBQ plates were on due to staff issues. Sandwiches were on but honestly the Pitmaster sandwich with brisket and sausage was just average. Cheeseburger pretty ok though. Overall, not worth the trouble really.

Verdict: Ok

The World’s End

This pub has some things going for it, in terms of space and beer selection, but it’s otherwise deeply average with extremely basic furniture and generally not much atmosphere to call it out.

Eastern Eye

It doesn’t seem promising – its website is garbage and the exterior looks budget. But that is totally wrong, this is one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to. Not dramatically original inside but clean, spacious, and friendly, and with a really interesting and varied menu. Mysore chilli chicken really special, and lamb rogan josh extremely excellent. All for very affordable pricing.
