Cute little coffee place in Kemp Town, lovely people in there and a great choice of smoothies which received good reviews. Didn’t have cake…but man I wanted to!

Bills itself as a “not-so-greasy spoon” in the Open Market. Bless them, the chap was really lovely, and the food incredibly cheap, so they’ve got that going, but it was pretty below par (average eggs, cold beans on toast) and the whole place smelt of the kitchen.

Hove Park is unexpectedly amazing, and so is its cafe. Most park cafes are just so-so, but this one has an extraordinary selection of tasty-looking cakes, brilliant-looking ready made sandwiches of all descriptions, plus cooked food including breakfast. Have yours outside on the huge amount of outdoor seating!

Great little funky deli in the heart of North Laine. Really nice people in there; tried a cheese and a cheese and bacon latke, both delicious, especially with recommended mustard/mayo combo. Vast blackboard of interesting looking deli sandwiches too!

Interesting Vietnamese cafe – usual coffees and sandwiches but also Vietnamese food like banh mi. Had the latter with pork and hoi sin, and it was pretty great, and really rather cheap.

Chain this one, but the Brighton location is lovely and big with brilliant booths etc. Huge breakfast menu does not disappoint. I had Ham So Eggsited, which wins on name alone, but is a pancake stack with ham and egg and maple syrup. Yum.

Specialist donut shop with a huge range of different flavours which is a bonus. Both donuts and croughnuts – had a chocolate praline croughnut and it was awesome.

Lovely little cafe for breakfast and lunch; nice and spacious inside with stools facing out to watch the world go by. Had a tasty bacon and egg sandwich (huge) and avocado smash for breakfast. All great and excellent value.

Quaint little cafe with lovely looking cakes; downside is I hope you like cake (or a bag of crisps) because as far as I can tell that’s all the food they do.

Cafe attached to Yellowave Beach Sports which we popped into. Great example of an unassuming but quality cafe; had a great bacon sandwich, BLT, and wrap. Super chilled.
