This pub has some things going for it, in terms of space and beer selection, but it’s otherwise deeply average with extremely basic furniture and generally not much atmosphere to call it out.
Verdict: Ok

It doesn’t seem promising – its website is garbage and the exterior looks budget. But that is totally wrong, this is one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to. Not dramatically original inside but clean, spacious, and friendly, and with a really interesting and varied menu. Mysore chilli chicken really special, and lamb rogan josh extremely excellent. All for very affordable pricing.

Chain this one, but pretty nice inside, lots of room! I enjoyed my brunch burger and thought the fries were excellent, but chicken burger a bit uninspired and the service, frankly, very annoying, so points off. Happy hour bargains though including half price beers!

Neapolitan pizza, renowned in Brighton and Hove but honestly, only ok. Pizza pretty good, but Brighton is lousy with top flight Neapolitan pizzerias. Cheap, yes, but the place is small, hot, and pretty plain. Basically, you’ll have a pretty solid meal but much better to be had.

Old-school grandeur hotel. This review is for the hotel bar, and it’s great. Big and vaulted but cosy in its way, easy to get service even on a Saturday night. You pay a bit for that, but great place for a very relaxed drink.

Father of the Ginger family, and surprisingly small – but in a great way. Short, ever-changing menu with a choice of 2 or 3 courses with 5 or so options in each. Went as a group of five so tried lots and everything apart from 1 dessert was rock solid – super inventive and interesting, really tasty. And, all up, a very good price and top notch service.

Cute little place for coffee and cake (or ice cream or a shake) – highly recommend rainbow cake! Be aware that it is ONLY dessert-y things – brownies as well – but they are delicious.

Brilliant Italian resto. Lovely interior, all wood and very intimate feeling. Food top notch, clearly home made gnocchi and delicious pizza. Desserts of chocolate mousse and cannolo really excellent too. Plus, lovely service and very reasonably priced.
Verdict: Awesome

Combination coffee shop, gallery and workshop space. Lovely space, really friendly people. But I have to say: avoid the cooked food. They haven’t the space for it and basically microwaved some bacon and poached some eggs on an electric hob for breakfast, and there’s many better places. But for coffee and cake, great choice.

Tiny little Italian place with 18 covers, bar-style around a central area. And – wow. All of it, amazing. Lovely focaccia with extra virgin olive oil. Amazing rabbit croquette. Two pasta dishes incredible, especially one with lamb. And lovely dessert, and great people, and all at very reasonable prices. Spot on.
Verdict: Amazing
